We harvested our first tomato this week! It was pretty delicious if I do say so myself. I look forward to eating many more from our garden! As for the rest of the garden, it’s doing well. The peppers have come in nicely and the herbs have exploded. The eating is good around here.
It’s Tomato Time!
Getting Our Garden Started
We planted our small backyard garden this week. We have tomatoes, bell peppers, strawberries, and some herbs (basil, cilantro, parsley, rosemary, and oregano). Since it’s our first garden at this house, we are unsure how it will go: will the bugs destroy it; will the deer feast on it; will the dog trample it; or will it succeed? We shall soon find out! In addition to our garden, I planted approximately 55 begonias in our front beds. (Lowes had the small annual six packs on sale for .89 cents so I went a little crazy) So far they are doing quite well. I think I’ve only lost one to the dog. Although some sneaky critter – I’m thinking an opossum or an armadillo – uprooted some during the night after I planted. Here are the pictures of our plantings. I want to take pictures each month to document how they grow. (Hopefully, they will grow and not whither away!)
This is the picture of the tomatoes and peppers.
Here are the herbs. Behind the herbs are my gladiolus plants. They seem to be growing quite nicely.
Finally, here is the front bed:
I’ll be back in a month to show you how they have grown!
